Pidurangala Rock Pidurangala Rock is a popular tourist destination located in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka. It is situated just a few kilometers north of the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress, another iconic landmark in the region. Pidurangala is a significant historical and cultural site, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Historical Significance: Pidurangala Rock holds significant historical and cultural importance, especially in relation to the nearby Sigiriya Rock Fortress. It is believed to have been a monastic complex dating back to ancient times. Buddhist monks used the site as a meditation retreat, and there are several ancient ruins including a forty feet long reclining statue of the Buddha and caves at the top of the rock. Pidurangala and Sigiriya are closely linked historically. It is believed that when King Kasyapa built the Sigiriya Rock Fortress in the 5th century AD, he relocated the existing Buddhist monastery (“Uppalavanna Kashyapa Girri Viharaya”)
